Microsoft Office Project Server delivers management information that enables corporate executives to see resource utilization across the enterprise, conduct what-if modeling and review all projects at a summary level.  Server also enables team collaboration with document version control, online timesheets, status reports and management of issues and risks.

Microsoft Office Project Professional delivers project schedules based on the critical path methodology (CPM) and calculates earned value (EV) measurements based on duration or work. Professional is required by Server, but can be used as a stand-alone desktop application.

Microsoft Office Project Standard enables an user to build a critical path methodology (CPM) schedule in a stand-alone application environment.  Standard cannot link to Server.
